The Standard

Every movement. Complete disassembly. No exceptions.

A clock that runs for six months after a surface cleaning is not a restored clock. The Timekeeper Atelier performs complete movement disassembly on every mechanical clock it services.

That means every component comes out, is inspected, cleaned ultrasonically or by hand, and reassembled to tolerance. Worn springs are replaced as a matter of course. When a part no longer exists in commercial supply, Ryan fabricates it at the bench.

Pricing begins with a starting estimate based on your description. The full scope becomes clear only after disassembly. You will hear exactly what the movement reveals and what it costs before any additional work proceeds. No surprises.

What We Restore

The Atelier services mechanical clocks only. This means clocks powered by human winding: weights, springs, and the pendulum or balance wheel that governs timekeeping. Battery, electric, and quartz clocks fall outside the scope of this work.

Grandfather & Longcase Clocks Weight-driven, pendulum-governed floor clocks
Mantel & Shelf Clocks Spring-powered mantel clocks, carriage clocks, bracket clocks
Vienna Regulators & Wall Clocks Weight or spring-driven wall-hung timepieces
School & Schoolhouse Clocks American-made spring-driven time-only and striking clocks
Anniversary & Torsion Clocks 400-day clocks and torsion pendulum movements

Outside this scope: Battery, electric, quartz, and motorized clocks. Watches and pocket watches. For these, another specialist is the right fit.

Every movement, all the way down.
The Standard

Every movement, all the way down.

A clock that runs for six months after an oiling is not a restored clock. Complete disassembly is the difference between a repair and a restoration that lasts decades.

How Service Works

Three formats. One standard of work.

I

Bench Service

You bring the piece to the atelier. Best for clocks that travel safely: mantel clocks, shelf clocks, smaller wall clocks, and most movements that do not require a technician on-site.

Turnaround depends on movement complexity and parts availability. Ryan provides a realistic timeline at intake.

II

House-Call Service

Ryan comes to the piece. Required for grandfather clocks and large longcase clocks that should not be moved. Also available for any client within the service area who prefers in-home service.

House-call service is available across Eastern Kentucky, Southern West Virginia, and Southwest Virginia. A travel fee applies beyond the immediate Pikeville area.

III

Mail-In Service

For shippable mechanical clocks with owners outside the driving service area. Submit an inquiry and Ryan provides packing guidance before you ship anything.

Grandfather clocks and large longcase pieces are not candidates for mail-in service. For those, a house-call or local drop-off is required.

Pricing

Honest estimates. No surprises.

Clock restoration pricing is priced per project. A starting estimate is provided at intake based on your description, movement type, and visible condition.

The true scope of a clock restoration becomes clear only after the movement is disassembled. If additional work is needed beyond the initial estimate, Ryan communicates exactly what the movement revealed and what it costs before that work proceeds. You decide.

House-call service includes a call fee that covers travel within the service area. Extended travel beyond the immediate Pikeville region is discussed at inquiry.
